History of this machine

I wish I could remember where I bought this, or really anything about the circumstances that brought me into the presence of this particular machine, but for some reason my memory's a nearly-complete blank. All I remember for sure is that I bought it in either my senior year of high school or during my college years, and I found it in an antique store. I think I may have paid as much as forty-five dollars for it.

When I bought it, there was a tag hanging from the handle of the carrying case that I still have. I looks like it was tied there with a piece of string by the manufacturer or a shop owner when the machine was new. One side is printed with spaces for the serial number, type, etc, and the other side, which was presumably blank before the machine was sold, bears a message handwritten by the owner which reads: "L.C. Smith typewriter bought for me by dad 1934."

The owner, I have reason to believe, was James Clishem of Chicago, Illinois, and I believe that because inside the carrying case there was slender box with the legend "L C Smith & Corona Typewriters Inc" printed on the lid, and Mr Clishem's name and address was neatly printed in block letters across a stick-on label that wraps around the bottom of the box.
