We're off to the planetarium this morning to tape another fine show scripted by Sato-san. Barb's the narrator today, Tim tells the story that normally falls in the middle of the show (with appropriate voices for different characters), and I'm a mental midget who shouts "Fugo! Fugo!" at the end of every sentence. I hope I remember to take the camera along today.
I have just two more watches left on the ops floor. That's right, I'm so close to a day job that I don't mind jinxing it this way. I work Monday and Tuesday, come in Friday morning to chat with my boss — I imagine the conversation will be along the lines of, "Don't let the door hit you in the ass" — and then I punch out early, if all goes according to plan, so that I can have the weekend off before starting in J2 on Monday. J2 is site security. They're putting me in charge of security. Go figure. But it's only for eight weeks while the real guy is TDY to Sr NCO academy. After that, I get my own desk as superintendent of supply. I'll mail you a jeep.
Barb & I took Boo to the vet a couple days ago. When she curled up to sleep, a big bulge would stick out from her tummy. Barb was so worried that it might be something wrong with the operation, so we swung by the vet's on Wednesday morning. "She's fat," the vet told us, after weighing Boo and doing a little gentle probing. Yes, she was looking a little chubby, but we didn't realize she'd gone from 2.6 kilos, when we brought her in to be fixed in November, to 4.4 kilos. So no more snacking, and no bottomless dish any more. Poor girl's on a diet.
I was shopping for some shelves at the BX today and happened to notice that a copy of Windows XP was on sale in the software aisle.
Microsoft software on sale — huh, hell must be freezing over.
It was marked $99.95, when it's usually $198.95. The girl at the checkout had to figure out the difference to punch the discount into her cash register. She needed a calculator.
Tim's been looking forward to getting XP for a while, and this was a deal I couldn't pass up, so I bought it, loaded it up on his computer, and ... so far, it's crap. Well, it's total crap. It just looks like crap because it's a Toon version of Windows 98, from what I can tell at first glance. Everything's pretty much the same, except that everything's soft edges and primary colors. I really hate the icons. And it doesn't come with Microsoft Word. With a little fine-tuning, things look pretty much normal again. It seems to be a lot more stable than Windows 98. More as the situation develops ...
